Puffins of Skomer

Puffins of Skomer

This is a fabulous opportunity to get away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life and visit one of the UK's best kept secrets.

Skomer is a National Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Protection Area. Much of Skomer has also been designated an Ancient Monument. It is surrounded by a Marine Nature Reserve. It is managed by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales.

Skomer Island on the Pembrokeshire Coast is home to a large number of breeding seabirds, including Manx Shearwaters, Guillemots, Razorbills, Black-legged Kittiwakes, Common Shags, Eurasian Oystercatchers, as well as birds of prey including Short-eared Owls, Common Kestrels and Peregrine Falcons.

The focus of this trip is the Atlantic Puffin population as Skomer is home to 10'000 breeding pairs who visit the island each year to nest in the burrows littered all over the island. Hatchings start in mid May until the end of July when all but the stragglers have left the island.

The island is also home to Grey Seals, which can often be viewed in the sheltered bays and rocks below the towering exposed headlands.

The first trip will be from the 21st or 22nd of May 2010 and will run every four days following for the next two weeks.

This is a full board, four day (three nights) trip with transport arranged from various locations in Dorset. Accommodation will be in an old style farmhouse not far from the ferry boat which will take us to the island each day.

Deer Watch 25th July

Deer Watch 25th July

An experience not to be missed! This day trip starts with pick ups from various points around Dorset for a short journey into North Dorset to a traditional Estate near Sherborne.

The Estate itself is approximately 1700 acres with around 300 acres of predominantly oak woodland, 80 acres of common land and an enclosed 80 acre deer park which is where our interest lies.

The deer in the park are a mixture of common and menil fallow with around 120 adults and 30 fawns born each year. The estate over the last couple of hundred years the estate has been used for country sports and the hedgerows and woodlands preserved for that purpose. The result is an unspoilt environment that makes the perfect backdrop to take pictures in.

This daytrip includes transport from various locations in Dorset, packed lunch, a brief history and orienteering so you can explore at your leisure. There will be professional photographers on hand should you need any advice.

Architecture of Bath 10th October

Architecture of Bath 10th October

The architecture of Bath is not to be beaten (in my opinion). This trip will guide you through many of the significant architectural monuments in the beautiful city of Bath. We will have approx 6 hours touring Bath on foot stopping to capture the scenes on camera.

Our day will guide us from Bath Abbey, Queens square, and the Royal Crescent to name but a few of the many features this trip will encompass.

The price includes transport from various locations in Dorset, lunch and a fully guided tour with professional photographers.

This trip will run in October so that (weather permitting) we will capture the soft lighting of the autumnal skies as we wander through this beautiful city. If there weather is inclement we will move inside to capture some of the amazing indoor architectural opportunities that the city provides.

Seal Watch Various Departure Dates

Seal Watch Various Departure Dates

This is a fabulous opportunity to photograph nature at its best. Donna Nook is the breeding site for seals from October to December and is one of the best sites for seeing and photographing seals and their pups in the UK.

Photographers have unprecedented opportunities to capture dramatic pictures of these amazing creatures. Given the vagaries of the British Weather the opportunity to stay for three nights increases the opportunity to enjoy these creatures although we cannot guarantee the weather.
